Inauguration Day

Monday, January 21st: Inauguration Day
Thanks to Mitch Staley, a WS participant, we got tickets to attend President Obama's swearing in. They weren't super awesome tickets but it was still super neat to be able to say that I attended and to watch.
Elyse, Tonya, and I woke up super early and walked over to the mall in order to get good spots in front of the Jumbo-trons so that we could see. It was a beautifully cold morning!

I'd say that we got pretty good spots! I have to admit that I am not the biggest fan of Obama and all of his initiatives but it was neat to be there. There was an overwhelming feeling of American pride and desire for change and improvement. Obviously each person there had different ideas of what that change should be, but I felt that everyone truly wanted to best for America. It reminded me of what an incredible blessing it is to be a citizen of the United States and the privileges we have that others cannot even dream of.

This is was the temperature right before it started. SO Cold!

It was a moment that I was truly excited and proud to be an American; no matter who was being put into office. This is a wonderful country with wonderful opportunities.

Ms. Christensen Goes to Washington

On January 5, I flew out to Washington D.C. for a whole new adventure. Since a really young age, DC has always been a magical place for me where things just happen. It's exciting to think that I'm actually living here now and can be apart of it all.

I am participating in the BYU Washington Seminar Internship program.  My internship is with the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA). This is the professional organization for all speech-pathologists and audiologists. I have the incredible opportunity to work on their Governmental Relations and Public Policy Team. It's something that I didn't even know ASHA did but it's exciting and there is so much to learn.

The weather is pretty unpredictable but the clouds were really neat this day.

HUGE BONUS: Morgan and Bryan live out here! We got together the first week and went to lunch. It was the best!
